Why I decided to launch an online editing course!

It’s been an exciting week for us!! Last Tuesday we launched our online classroom where you can enroll in two free courses for beginning photographers as well as our first time ever online guide to editing! We’ve received amazing feedback from you guys and it seriously just warms my heart to know all that hard work did something good for ya!!

Some of you have asked me why I decided to release an online course. Wouldn’t I be giving away all of my secrets? Wouldn’t that just create a bunch of copy cat photographers? The answer is YES and NO. And you want to know why? Because every single one of you is created to be unique, and while I can share my editing techniques and allow others to edit with my presets, I’ve never felt like I was doing the wrong thing, because I truly believe everyone deserves to take amazing photos of their life.

We live in a digital age where photos are our memories and social media is our journal. I personally find this beautiful. I’d kill to see an Instagram account of my mom during her teenage years! Or my grandma! I think it would be fascinating to read a blog written by Vincent Van Gogh. I’d love to read Michelangelo’s top ten tips for making it big in the artist world. It is SO rad to me how visual our society is and we have the technology to carry out our dreams. Many of you have this huge desire to create using photography – whether that’s capturing the special moments of others or simply documenting your own life – and I want to be there to help you do it.

My life has been shifting towards this goal all year. I’ve grown tired of feeling like a walking advertisement – doing sponsored posts and constantly hustling to keep up with the world of Instagram. What I truly want to do is help people. So we changed our business model to compromise: we get to pay the bills by releasing our own products (products that actually help people!) and in the end don’t need to constantly advertise online and work on photo shoots I’m not passionate about. Now, I’m able to simply create art that speaks to my soul – all while selling our products that help others do the same!

So yes, my editing course does pay the bills (I’m just keepin’ it real here!) but to me it’s so much more than that. It’s my own little love project – from me to you. I want you to feel me take you by the hand and lead you through what I know. I want to truly help you as you navigate the world of editing photos. I know buying an online course can feel like you’re taking the plunge, but I promise if you have a desire to be a better photographer + documenter, it will truly help you and give you the confidence you need to love your art.

Lauren, a hobbyist who uses photos to promote her online business on social media, said this about the course:

Jessica, a full time photographer who’s been at it for two years, said she still learned a crazy amount in this course! This is what she had to say:

So if you’re wondering if this course is really for you, simply ask yourself:

Do I want to feel confident delivering my photos to clients, fully knowing that they look amazing and my editing is consistent?

Do I struggle with skin tones, interracial couples, or retouching skin in Photoshop?

Do I feel like I’m limited by the small amount of tools I’m familiar with in Lightroom and Photoshop?

Do my travel photos lack something special?

Do I want to turn my own memories into something I’d want to hang on my wall in the living room?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I designed this course with YOU in mind. Whether you know absolutely nothing about editing photos or you have been at it for a few years, there is more than enough for you to learn! The best part is, the course will be refined + grow with you! I’ll continue to add tutorials based on your requests, answer any editing questions you might have, and personally mentor you when you need it.

You can check out the course here along with two FREE courses to get you started if you’re still feeling a little unsure!

Love, Heather
